In 2004 Sixty Minutes featured a segment on a new weight loss supplement, Hoodia Gordonii Plus and it’s taken the world by storm. The Hoodia plant is native to South Africa and Namibia and has been used for years by the natives to suppress their appetites during long treks into the desert. This plant actually has thirteen different species in its family and Hoodia Gordonii is the one used as an appetite suppressant. Many mistakenly label it a cactus, when in fact it is a member of the succulent family. It has a thick stem, where it stores water, and grows to a meter in height.
