The guest doctor on Oprah is Dr. Oz discussed the health benefits of Acai, a fruit of the Acai palm in the Amazon. Oprah has not endorsed any Acai products specifically, but many continue to use her picture to promote their products. With instant popularity, the Acai Berry is very profitable and is sold online under dozens of names. It is called the magic bullet for nearly everything from weight loss to curing cancer. Three of the most common claims are exposed as simply myths in this article.

Myth Number 1: The Acai Berry helps people lose weight. Acai is a fruit which is high in anti-oxidants that bind with free radicals. Free radicals do damage to cells in our bodies, so anti-oxidants are healthy. Also, Acai is rich in fatty acids and contains fiber, but neither causes your body to burn fat. Acai is promoted as a fat burning food, but how it this really works is explained nowhere.

The second myth is that the Acai Berry promotes muscle growth. Claims of guys getting ripped because of Acai are common. There are even stories of the Spartans in the movie 300 taking Acai to get their chiseled physiques. But one of the top fitness trainers in the world explains ‘all those Acai sites do is steal photos from other sites and put them on those blogs. Those sites are 100% lies. There’s not a word of truth on any of those sites’. The fact is the 300 were trained by Mark Twight and Acai was not part of the regimen. While Acai is nutritious, it contains nothing to increase muscle growth or improve definition.

Third is the myth of the free sample. Free trial offers, not free samples, are advertised on tens of thousands of websites. Many feel the offers are a scam so be sure to read the fine print. Here is how it goes: the consumer covers the cost of shipping and handling, usually around seven dollars, with their credit card and the free trial product is shipped. Now for the fine print which says the length of the free trial, usually fourteen days, and if the trial samples are not returned the buyer will be charged the full price of the product. The cost is often forty dollars or more, and the seller will continue charging the card and shipping product monthly until cancelled.

A variety of myths about Acai are common online. This article exposed just three of the most common myths. Acai sites may have good sales pitches, but you can now read them with a more critical eye to avoid getting ripped off.
